Great start to the new year – with a fab ceili!

Thanks to Ceili Time & Joe Farrell for providing fantastic music & craic last night at our ceili in The Lodge Castlewellan, and a huge thank you to all those who came to support us. It was very much appreciated & great to see such a large crowd. Hope everyone enjoyed it & look forward to seeing you all back with us on the 24th Feb for Ceili with Cathal McAnulty, Many Thanks Sharon & The Ceili Committee. PS, Thanks Joe for a lovely selection of sets and for showing us the Birr ;-)

Newcastle CCE annual Christmas Party

Newcastle CCE held their annual Christmas Party and Junior Prizegiving on Thursday the 15th Dec at the Lodge Cultural Centre, Castlewellan.
Chairperson Brendan Scullion presented the following awards;
  • Sean MacRuairi Cup (highest marks at county fleadh) – Fintan Carson
  • Scullion Perpetual Trophy (guitar) – Fergus Kennedy and Caragh Dorans (shared)
  • Paddy Brennan Trophy (fiddle 12-15) – Eoghan Lemoine
  • Willie McCartan Trophy  (fiddle 15-18 ) – Helena Devlin
  • TG Gems Trophy (banjo/mandolin) – Eoin Magennis
  • Nancy Rodgers Trophy (flute) – Meabh Leckey
  • Rodgers Perpetual Shield (Irish Language) – Rory O’Boyle
  • Cowan Perpetual Trophy (Singing) – Fintan Carson
  • Newcastle CCE Shield (Most improved under 10) – Louise O’Hare (Tin Whistle)
  • Newcastle CCE Shield (Most improved under 12) – Clara Rogan (Flute)
  • Newcastle CCE Shield (Most improved under 12-15) - Miadhachlughain O’Donnell and Orla McCarthy (Tin Whistle/Shared)
  • Newcastle CCE Trophy (Accordion/Concertina) – Eilish Rowan
  • Bartley Finnegan Trophy (drums/bodhran) – Tomas Fettes and Niall Dornan (shared) presented by Una Phillips
  • Murray Perpetual Trophy (Uileann Pipes) – Ruairi Howell (placed 3rd at this years All Ireland Fleadh in Cavan)
Prizes were also given out for the best fancy dress outfits on the night!!! There was also a flying visit from Santa Claus. Classes will recommence on Thursday 12th and Saturday 14th Jan. A small number of places are available in some classes so if it’s your New Years Resolution to learn an instrument, dance or sing…. you’re more than welcome to come along!

Annual Dinner Dance/Awards Night

The Annual Dinner Dance was once again a great night craic (check out the photos below for proof!). Thanks to everyone who attended and a special word of thanks to Grainne, Sharon, Tash and Donna for organising this.

Three awards were given out on the night to very deserving winners;

  • Chairpersons Award : Orla Hyland
  • Family Award : Nicky and Laura McCrickard
  • Members member : Maggie Walsh (voted by members on the night)
Food was provided by Niall Irvine and music by “Lager than Life”. Highlights included Seans Sean Nos dancing/lawnmower moves, jimmys “lizard” drawing, Rosaleen dancing with “balloon man”  not to mention the girls “cha cha slide” moves! Roll on next year :-)
